Job Description
Design engineers in sheet metal must have strong mechanical and computer aided design (CAD) skills. They must be able to design and develop 3D models of components and assemblies, and have a good understanding of materials and manufacturing processes.
Create 3D models of components and assemblies using CAD software
Develop and optimize designs for cost, performance and manufacturability
Research, develop and evaluate new and existing materials and processes
Collaborate with manufacturing personnel to ensure designs are suitable for production and meet customer requirements
Prepare CAD drawings and bills of materials
Perform design calculations to ensure components meet required specifications
Troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues
Perform design reviews and provide feedback to engineering team
Follow all design and engineering standards and guidelines
Qualification:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Proficiency in CAD software such as Solidworks
Knowledge of sheet metal materials, processes and fabrication techniques
Understanding of GD&T principles and practices
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
